Thimphu -- They sang, they danced, they conquered. Thimphu has fallen
in love with the Kadrinchee performance troupe after 40 shows from
November 6 till yesterday. And they conquered the audience with fiery
performances at the CICCC ground.

And many local performers agree that Kadrinchee has set the
quality-bar higher for artists here.

The artists are from the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA)
and the Akama Band from Himachal Pradesh, India.

"In the last few years they have been trying to come to Bhutan to
perform but had been unable.  And then during the coronation
celebration we approached the CICCC," said Sherab Gyaltshen, a member
of the sponsoring Bhutanese-Tibetan community who brought the troupe here.

The troupe consists of 15 members, of which seven are women, all
between the age of 19 and 30.

Though TIPA has composed the background score and performed for the
Hollywood hit Seven Years in Tibet, starred in movies, Kundun and Jab
We Met, the trip to Bhutan was most memorable, the team members said.

"We are very happy to be in Bhutan and I am really surprised to the
respect and faith people have in their kings, which I would say is
rare to find in this century," said Samten Dhondup, the troupe leader.

It was the confidence and the vigor of the team on stage that caught
the Bhutanese crowd.

Basked in the luxurious lights at the CICCC grand stage, the crowd
swayed with the well-choreographed swings of the elegant attire.

The dynamic tapping of the feet on stage sent vibes unfelt before to
the audience.

While the performers pampered the crowd with their unrestrained
smiles, local artists were amazed at the flexible wrist and hip movements.

Pem Zam, a bank employee, who could not watch the previous shows
live, said, she would not miss the Saturday show at the CICCC ground.
